Curriculum and Planning for Homeschool

I have added a page to my blog listing our curriculum for this school year. It has all been ordered so there is no changing my mind now. It might seem a bit heavy or kindergarten but I don't plan on doing it all every day/ I am going to let the boys guide how much work they will do each day. We got our Math-U-See Primer last night and Joshua was super excited. He did the entire first lesson and played with the blocks for over an hour!

I ordered the Well-Planned Day Planner to get us all organized. I have read so many raving reviews about it. For the boys we will be using a modified version of Sue Patrick's Workboxes that I think will work very well. I will do a more in-depth post on both of these once we get started but this is a picture of Nikolas' workboxes (from the dollar store), they are filled with flash cards, writing practice, books to read out loud and My ABC Bible Verses. The file folders are for Joshua's My Father's World curriculum. I can add printables and lapbook items or write links on the folder for each lesson. This will help me avoid the Sunday planning. I know what is coming up in the next weeks so if I see something I can print it and put it in the appropriate folder.

I'm in the middle of planning our lessons as well. I have the planner that Jolanthe from Homeschool Creations made. I really like that I can type directly into the document and use it over and over again. I haven't decided if I want to use workboxes or not. I leaning towards yes though.

I have hidden our boxes of curriculum from sight. My oldest has been asking me for months if it was time for school to start yet. If I left his stuff around I'm sure he'd start without me, LOL!

At this rate Joshua will be done with the Math-U-See Primer by Christmas but that is ok with me! The first thing he asked me this morning was "can I play with my blocks mom?" He begs all day to play with them!

I have a feeling Chris will be done with the kindergarten lessons by February. We may end up doing MFW K as first semester 1st grade. I've been planning the lessons and he can already do a lot of the work.

I've been thinking about using Math U See. I've heard great things about it. We will probably have a late start to our "official" school year... but we'll see. =) Everything sounds good for your year!
